Wedding MC TIPS how to elegantly hold the microphone as a master of ceremonies

As a wedding reception emcee, you always want to appear elegant and in control. Like the dog whisperer, you must be in control of the microphone and not let it control you. You make the microphone your trusted friend by holding it in a relaxed manner and speaking across the top.

Many guests with bad hearing will be reading your lips so make sure that the microphone does not obstruct and cover your mouth.

 

Because of germs, I always take my own CORDLESS microphone and plug it into the venue’s own PA speaker system. By not using the sub-standard lectern microphone, I am not tied to the one spot and can move into the CENTER of the dance-floor and invigorate the guests with my energy and enthusiasm.

I love working as a Master of Ceremonies. And who wouldn’t?

Being up front and in control at any special event is an honour. I am aware that many people have spent many hours planning for this one occasion.

A corporate MC mixes education, entertainment, and friendship. Condensed down for maximum enjoyment in minimum time.

While a Master of Ceremonies at a wedding uses the same skills in a totally different setting. A reception is intimate, elegant and traditional.

In any case, I am distinctly aware that there is only one chance to get it right – so for me, preparation is the key.

After the confirmation deposit has been paid, we will need to meet together so I can help to design an effective run-sheet.

If needed, I am able to coach the speakers.

Is this the first MC to use an Apple iPad instead of the standard clipboard?

Professional Master of Ceremonies and APPLE fan-boy Pete Miller has found that the new Apple mobile iPad device is a perfect addition to his elegant dinner suit uniform.

It is 1000x better than the tired ole dog-eared clipboard that most MCs use with reams of crumpled paper full of shorthand scribble.

Pete says that the iPad still has a large WOW effect on the audience; which is a good thing when you need to stop them chatting and attract their attention.

The only problem Pete has found is how to hold it and talk at the same time without the thumb getting in the way. He is also still working out how to scroll with one thumb.

The run-sheet is composed in microsoft WORD in conjunction with the bride and groom, the function manager and the MC.

Pete converts it to an APPLE Pages doc, emails it to himself and then opens it in Pages on the iPad so he can change the text, etc
